Datang Telecom Plans Purchase of 35% Stake in UniScope Technologies

China's Datang Telecom revealed at the end of August that the company has earmarked 155 million RMB (US$22.66 million; US$1=6.84 RMB) for the purchase of 35% stake in UniScope Technologies, a Chinese supplier of CDMA- and GSM-based motherboard and whole system design services, according to a report by China Business News of Shanghai. It is reported that Datang Telecom aims to strengthen its mobile phone business via the stake acquisition, following which Datang Telecom will become the largest controlling stakeholder of UniScope Technologies. At present the acquisition deal is pending shareholders' approval.
